friday faves {twenty four}.

As the days get chillier, this touchscreen gloves kit would be pretty useful.

Bacon scarf? Fou Lard.

Make things.

I am sorry for the lack of original posts lately, I am going through major hibernation mode and most of my days are a slight variation of this: me + bed + tv show + munchies. Um, not exciting. And sometimes I even study, what?

I also did go home last weekend, and it made me miss my family lots. I am so thankful for the time that I got to spend with them, and cannot wait for Christmas! It really reminded me to spend more time with the people I care about (friends and family) and to really keep in touch and keep up with their lives.

Have a great weekend wherever you are, whatever you're doing!

friday faves {twenty three}

A smartphone controlled lightbulb. Our phones are becoming our universal remotes.

The effect of typefaces in politics. Hm? How 'bout that election. Exciting, right? Meaning, I didn't follow it at all. But finding out that Obama is elected for another 4 years was still pretty exciting.

What I learned this week:
Let us delight in the Lord, because He delights in us!

I am not very good at picking up dance choreography, but I still love to dance. I am so grateful for my weekly morning dance sessions with my dear friends Jocelyn and Angie. I can learn choreography in the company of very helpful and eager friends!

Contests make everything better! CoGro has a golden ticket contest going on right now, where they hide awesome gift certificates in their pre-made sandwiches, and it makes me want to buy their pre-mades all the time!! It also helps that their food is delicious, too.

What is happening to our social etiquette?
“People hide behind e-mail or text messages to cancel appointments, or do things that feel uncomfortable to do in person.”

Toy eggs, hehe.

Ellen is seriously the best.

And a verse of encouragement, Psalm 84:11.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor;
no good thing does he withhold
from those whose walk is blameless.

Is this real life?

Wouldn't you love to have instant comfort in a box for those days?

A silly Shakespeare comic.

I'm going to a Health and Human Rights Conference this weekend, and it sounds really interesting! I'll keep you posted! I'm pretty excited for it. Have a great weekend!

walk in the rain, without getting wet.

this is so amusing, hehehe.

Last week, being the bright kid I am, I planned my friday faves ahead of time. This week has been absolute craziness for me. I wrote a midterm on Wednesday, two yesterday and one this morning. Craziness, I tell you! But it's that time of year.. I have one more on Tuesday, likely my hardest one. Wish me luck! My studying didn't stop me from browsing blogs this week though, of course not! So I do still have a few other links to share:

Making apple pie baked oatmeal is on my to-do list. Has anyone noticed how expensive apples have gotten? $1.99/lb is more than I remember..

Another cake frosting technique for the books.

I almost participated in this calendar swap last year, but decided against it. I'm considering it this year and have been pinning calendar ideas on Pinterest.. The creative in me wants a project to work on, but I am so busy with school, volunteering and small-group leading. I'm not sure if I will get to it. But that's also the laziness in me speaking. We'll see! You should check it out if you are interested though :)

washi masking tape!?

HAH.

I was never a big Simpsons fan, but this was neat! Real-life version of the opening sequence!

Have a lovely weekend, all! I have about a million midterms to study for, and will be all bundled up as it is getting mighty chilly here. Stay warm!

I need this!

Things I learned this week:

I need to schedule things into my calendar if I want them to get done. This includes "getting to campus" time. #timemanagementtips

After 4 weeks of class, I have started to think in French again (not naturally, but if I was already speaking in French in the first place).. this is a good sign!

I know very little about statistics. I can't even make a nerdy joke here, just because I don't know enough. Sniffle.

Praise God! I have so much to be thankful for: #salvation #community #family #brothersandsisters #constantreminders #opportunities. I actually don't know why those were all hashtags. Just roll with it, okay? Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! Give thanks (in ALL circumstances!) today, tomorrow and always. I am going home this long weekend for some quality catch-up time. Enjoy your long weekends everyone!

Such a cool idea to fill an empty room. How tall are you?

A hilarious tumblr poking fun at the new iOS 6 maps. Ridiculous!

These misplaced "quotation marks" are quite amusing!

This journalist's middle name is 8. Yes, the number 8.

What I learned this week:

School has started. Therefore assignments and tests have started too. Duh. {My brain is legit still on summer mode, somebody help me!}

I rediscovered my love for word searches while working on a fair trade word search at the Oxfam Co-op booth. Come visit me at the Walkhome booth in the JDUC on Thursdays between 2:30 and 3:30 to buy fair trade chocolate, coffees and teas! Do it. {Sorry for the Queen's jargon, come visit Kingston?}

I learned how to type lots of useful symbols on my MacBook.. ∑≠±µ (all useful when taking notes in stats class) and éàîç (all useful for French). Option + other keys, knock yourself out!

I am the walrus. Cookies.

Advocating for breakfast.

I want pretty drawer pulls/doorknobs.

Things that I learned this week:

Midterms sneak up on you faster than you think! I have one next week, as well as a homework assignment due. Time to kick myself into gear!

My housemate's boyfriend has a low rumbly voice, that sounds sort of like it's coming from a TV when I'm upstairs.

You might think everything you are learning in stats class is easy, but when your prof gives you a pop quiz you realize that you need to study anyway.

You should have 3 or 4 moderate level cardio workouts a week. Mix it up if you want to do more, but always have a rest day. {This class is really motivating me to work on my fitness!}

friday faves {fifteen}

oh, okay.

this painting from last weekend.

more washi tape fun.

Things I learned this week:

Follow God's will over my own. In that decision making pro/con list, how many reasons align with what the Bible says? What is biblically correct, and where is God leading me? Am I trying to make my own rules, or following God's?

Be thankful. Love your family. Persevere. Pray always.

I am really awful at French.. I haven't used my French since high school. #rusty

It takes a lot of work to get to a high fitness level but it takes very little work to stay there.. so establish a good strong fitness base level. On that note, I met an exchange student at the pool the other day and helped her with her strokes, super cool!

If you want to sell your textbooks, it requires a combination of a lot of patience, proactiveness, and sensible pricing. I have sold 2 out of 4 textbooks being used this semester, and have now lost a lot of mojo. Boy, it is hard work.

As the school year progresses, I'm sure my friday faves will change as well. It might include my favourite lessons of the week, rather than favourite links. This was only my first week of class, but I have already spent considerably less time just browsing the internet in my free time. So I hope you enjoy learning with me!!

Sneaky shelf.

A really cool tissue box cover.

Inspiring workspace.

I know it's not the point of the picture at all, but I might rotate the small desk in my room to be angled in the corner like so.

Green tea kit kats.

I decided one morning that this is my favourite style of frosting ever.. looks simple enough!

While we're at it, this is a pretty cake too.

Matchbox mice beds. Adorable.

Oh, to (literally) live on the water.

We go to incredible lengths to ensure political correctness.. will you think twice before using these common phrases such as "hold down the fort"?

Wow.. crazy stunt!

I am kind of in love with the look of these scarves.

One day, I will go paragliding in switzerland.

I SOOOO want to win this giveaway!! What do you think my chances are? Close to none? Thought so. #prizeofalifetime

Pearl milk tea popsicles?!?!

This blogger hosts pop-up dinners every summer.. a fancy dinner, set up outdoors in the middle of nowhere! I so want to try this.

Tug-of-war used to be an Olympic sport.

Peel away lamp light.

An LA cake store that lets you decorate your own cakes and cupcakes! Up for a trip, anyone?

Sounds typical to me. Story of my life.

Olympians' nail art! (thanks Emily!)

What English sounds like to foreigners (seriously, what the?):

Have a great long weekend, guys! I'll be doing a mini-trip to Kingston. I can't wait for a day off, whew!

A romantic heart-shaped meadow as a memory of this farmer's late wife.

Pooh bear holds a special place in my heart. This clip is one hilarious video (for some Friday fun!).

I think I cry everytime I read this story about this sweet mama who learned the hard way to trust God. (She also posts regularly about her family, and it's very cute to see her boys grow!)

I will probably also spend some time this weekend braiding my hair.. I have nothing better to do, haha!

Will you watch the Olympics? I'm most excited for the diving, swimming and gymnastics, you?

This weather site would be useful in helping decide what to wear in the morning! Only problem is that it is in Fahrenheit. #canadianproblemseh

I'm always peering at what other people are reading on the bus, this Underground New York Public Library captures shots of readers on New York transit.. amazing!

This is just cool. Musical glasses, upgraded.

An edible cookbook.

Ottawa has pretty good bike paths, but we've got nothing on Copenhagen and their bike superhighway!

Wicked cool chameleon bandaid.

I used to want to be a mermaid when I was younger.. Dream come true? (This actually super weirds me out.. but as a kid would have been veeery cool!)

I am obsessed with Walk Off The Earth's new song, Summer Vibe. (And if you haven't seen it yet, their 5 people, 1 guitar video)

The nerd in you may appreciate xkcd's new What If blog that answers ridiculous hypothetical scientific/mathematical questions in a completely serious, yet humourous way.

This weekend is the last weekend of this summer's Ottawa Bluesfest! I'll be out finishing up my last volunteer shift, and to see more shows including Metric as I do every year. Join me on twitter as I tweet the festival.. Or on Instagram too!

friday faves {five}

This is friday faves, Ottawa Bluesfest edition!
(Mixed reasons: (1) Bluesfest is awesome, and I do recommend seeing the acts if you are in town, and (2) I haven't really been home to read blogs so I have little to recommend... I'm at Bluesfest everyday!!!)

Tonight (July 6th): Freelance Whales, Arkells, City and Colour.

Tomorrow (July 7th): I only started listening to this Christian rock band last night, but I'm already loving their sound.. I will definitely be around to check out Juno award winning Downhere.

Norah Jones, Down With Webster, Chromeo, and so many other big names are coming over the weekend and in the week to come. Bluesfest has only just started..! I can't wait to be out there for the rest of the festival! Join me on twitter as I tweet all the great shows! Or on Instagram!

Tiesto on opening night!

Carly Rae Jepsen, such a sweetheart!

Dragonette, what an amazing set! Favourite show of the night!!

LMFAO, party rockin' with the best of 'em.

If you've been following my Canada Day Weekend post series, part 3 will be posted tomorrow! You can find part 1 here and part 2 here.
